What Is NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)

and how does it work?

It is easier to explain how it works rather than what it is. It was first developed in the late 1970’s by Dr Richard Bandler and John Grinder, NLP explores how our mind and behaviour patterns work. Of course everyone is different and there are so many ways to do the things that we do. By looking closely at the way we do things, techniques can be developed to quickly and effectively change thoughts, behaviours and beliefs that limit our true abilities. By changing the structure, or the way we react, we can add more flexibility, confidence and effectiveness to the way we live our lives. Successful internal and external attitudes, feelings and thoughts can be ‘modelled’ and those models can be installed in someone else. Once these strategies have been installed it gives the person the ability to learn the successful behaviour, change the limiting belief or alter the negative thought patterns that can then improve their life and help them achieve their full potential.

NLP techniques are useful for many different things such as curing fears and phobia’s, managing and changing moods and behaviours, increasing self confidence and it can also help to acquire new skills and attributes that can help you in many different areas of your life. It is especially useful in business as it can allow you to gain access to much needed skills and resources for public speaking, job interviews and improving sales techniques. NLP, used in conjunction with hypnosis, has proven to be an extremely powerful combination!

NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is closely linked to hypnosis and is often part of a lot of modern day hypnotherapy treatments. It makes contact with the subconscious mind in a similar way to hypnosis. Hypnotherapy takes the more metaphoric and persuasive route to changing thoughts, feelings and beliefs. NLP therapy takes a more direct and dynamic approach to change. Both routes are effective, but everyone is different and it’s your chosen hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner that must find the approach and techniques that will work best for you.

NLP therapy, commonly used today by the likes of Richard Bandler, Paul McKenna and Derren Brown, is now widely used by hypnotherapist’s as an added tool to bring about positive change in people. Here at Universal Hypnotherapy in Brighton, Hove, Eastbourne & Sussex, our hypnotherapist’s are trained to ‘licensed’ master practitioner level, thus providing you with the best possible help and coaching to further your life and help you achieve your goals.
